We are so excited for our annual Candy Buy Back in partnership with our friends at Move America Forward. For the last 3 years, Surfside has been committed to giving back to our troops in a small but mighty way!

Here’s how it works:

The week following Halloween, Nov 1 – 8, 2019, we invite you in to donate as much of your candy as your kids are willing to part with in exchange for green money! Yes, that’s right, we will buy back your candy one pound at a time at $1 per pound with a five dollars maximum buyout.

So where does this candy go you ask? It goes to a great cause, all donations go straight into hand-packed care packages put together by MAF volunteers and distributed around the world to very special recipients.

Move America Forward Move America Forward (MAF) is a nonprofit military charity based in Sacramento, California and the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Their principal mission is to provide care packages and letters from grateful Americans to the troops deployed in combat areas around the world. While there are many admirable groups supporting our veterans, we are one of the few organizations left supporting active-duty troops deployed to the front lines of Afghanistan, Iraq, and other areas around the world where our troops are still in harm’s way.

Each box is carefully packed with more than just candy. As Scott shows us in the warehouse interview above, they pack up many other small luxuries from home including, cozy socks, magazines, international phone calling cards, toiletries, Girl Scout Cookies and a whole bunch of other items on an assembly line. It is the mission of Move America Forward to make every single box special. And most importantly we get to share in letting our active military know that they’re not forgotten. Some soldiers are on their second, third, and fourth deployment, spending years away from their families and these care packages give them great joy. These packages are especially significant to soldiers who do not receive any other mail from home.

Move America Forward has been shipping care packages for over 15 years. Just a couple of years ago Surfside got involved to help develop the Halloween Candy Buy Back program. Ever since our partnership kicked off, here in Sacramento, the program has just exploded. Today, over 2000 volunteers come together to pack all this Halloween candy and MAF is receiving candy from all over the United States.” – Scott Rabb

We’re so thankful to be part of this program. This is a chance for our patients to give back to our communities and support our troops. It’s just so cool. Not only do we care about the patients that are inside our doors but we care about what’s going on outside in our communities as we know our patients do too. *BONUS* Don’t forget to include a personalized note from your family, thanking our troops. The notes are included inside the care packages and make such a sweet impact. The recipients of these care packages are also provided with a return form to reply.
