Celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month
When it comes to children’s oral health, it’s best to start them young. This is one of the reasons why National Children’s Dental Health Month is so important. It is during this short period that much attention is directed toward spreading awareness and information about children’s oral health.
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and communities all over the country are doing their part in upholding the many traditions this event has cultivated in its 76 years of existence. This occasion started in 1941 and was just a single-day event in Cleveland, Ohio, but seeing how beneficial the event was in increasing awareness about the value of oral health in young people, it continued to be celebrated through the years.
This year, National Children’s Dental Health Month will again feature various oral health-themed events as well as several other new activities. Families with young children can look forward to everything from poster displays, to coloring and essay contests, health fairs, free dental screenings, museum exhibits, classroom presentations, and dental office tours.
During the month, an abundance of information will be presented in creative ways to encourage young people to take better care of their teeth and gums. Dental professionals who are lending their services to the celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month will be sharing their best tips on cavity prevention, such as how to brush teeth properly to prevent plaque (2-3 times a day), how long brushing should take, how to make brushing fun for finicky little ones (like playing songs in the background), what kinds of dental products should be used by kids, how to floss easily and so much more.
They will also introduce the latest developments in the dental world that everybody should know about and then share products that can further strengthen the impact of oral health education.
National Children’s Dental Health Month is a delightful occasion aimed to achieve better overall health for children. It brings not only the best dental health professionals together, but also health care providers and even educators, so that children can avoid the needless pain and suffering created by dental woes as well as chronic diseases that manifest in later years but form during childhood years.
If you’re a parent, it’s helpful to show your support and take advantage of how various organizations in your community are celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month.
