Each lip balm is hand-poured containing worry-free (all natural) ingredients like beeswax avocado butter, fractionated coconut oil, lanolin, flavor & Vitamin E! Say that three times fast!

But first a short interview with the owner of Handcrafted Honeybee, Stacia!

We wanted to know how Handcrafted Honeybee began and what their goals are for the future. We also wanted to share some of their other amazing products that are available to the public!

We asked Stacia about how the company began:

Handcrafted HoneyBee had its unofficial beginning about 7 years ago in our kitchen. We were first-year beekeepers, and our first honey harvest yielded some leftover beeswax. I wondered what to do with it, and decided I wanted to learn to make lip balms! I found a recipe on the internet for a beeswax lip balm and gave it a try…only to discover that it was AWFUL. From that point on, I was determined to figure out how to make a better lip balm. I studied oils, waxes, and natural butters; I tried many different recipes with many different ingredients. I took courses on how to make natural skincare products, learned about different ingredient ratios and benefits, and experimented, experimented, experimented. Finally, after about 20 different recipes and dozens of friends who had agreed to be my guinea pigs, I formulated a recipe that was a hit—and it’s still my recipe today.

Years later, after lots of farmer’s markets, craft shows, and online sales, Handcrafted HoneyBee has expanded far beyond lip balms to also offer soaps, natural deodorants, and DIY kits. We have retail customers in every state, and our products are sold in over 90 brick and mortar locations across the country. We also have a give-back program, donating a portion of sales to girls’ education as well as providing free aluminum-free deodorant for breast cancer patients in partnering hospitals. It’s amazing how far we’ve come since those early days experimenting in my kitchen!

With all of their success we asked Stacia, what drives your passion for creating natural skincare products? Here is what she had to say:

My passion is driven by a love for learning and sharing that knowledge with others—I’m a former classroom teacher, so I’ll always want to infuse education into every part of what I do (you’ll notice all of our products have some element of education worked into them)! So when I formulate skincare, it’s not just about formulating something that others will enjoy using; it’s also about helping to educate our customers as to why they should take good care of the largest organ in their bodies—their skin!

Finally, Handcrafted Honeybee’s products are aluminum-free and we wanted our readers/surfers to know why that is important:

Going aluminum-free for deodorant is one of the things I’m most passionate about. Our deodorant line, SmartyPits, is proudly aluminum-free, and it’s a very intentional choice: my mom is a breast cancer survivor, and when she found the lump it was directly under her armpit. During her chemo and radiation, I began to do some research about breast cancer, and it was then that I first learned about the links between aluminum and breast cancer (as well as Alzheimer’s Disease). I knew I wanted to stop using commercial antiperspirants (all of which contained aluminum), but I needed something that worked—especially since I was using the “Clinical Strength” type products. That fueled my desire to create a deodorant that was as effective as the commercial antiperspirants, but aluminum-free…and SmartyPits is the result of that!
