Expect a ton of smiles in a magical environment.
We’ve answered a few common questions to help you know
what to expect and prepare for your child’s first appointment.
When should I bring my child in for their first dental appointment?
We recommend bringing your child in by age 1 or within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth. If possible schedule the most convenient time that will allow for your child to be alert and fresh.
How do I prepare my child for their first dentist visit?
Before your scheduled visit, we encourage you to create a dialog around the topic of brushing, meeting their dentist and Surfside’s fun atmosphere of ocean, games and sea creatures. Talking about the upcoming dental appointment to help your child mentally prepare for their visit.
What happens at your first dentist appointment?
This visit gives your child an opportunity to explore the new atmosphere and begin to establish a positive relationship with the dentist.
What happens during the exam?
Your dentist will prompt the adult to position the child for a short lap exam, where the dentist can examine the child’s existing teeth, bite, and identify any potential concerns with the gums, jaw, and oral tissues.
How do I care for my child’s teeth before seeing a dentist?
Protecting your children’s teeth at home is very important. We encourage introducing a brushing routine early, this includes gum brushing. Creating a daily brushing habit early will allow your child to become comfortable with the motion of brushing and having an adult help with the actively.
